Description

Charles Valton was born in Paris on January 26, 1851. He is in turn the pupil of the two masters of animal sculpture of the 19th century, BARYE and FREMIET, also directors of the Jardin des Plantes in Paris, where the young Valton spends most of his time capturing the postures and anatomical details of the residents of the Grande Ménagerie.
From 1868 until 1914, Valton regularly participated in the Paris Salon, where he exhibited more than 70 animal models and won several medals. In 1883, he was a professor of sculpture at the Germain Pilon school, and in 1906 he received the Legion of Honor for his entire body of work.
The striking posture of truth and the precision of the feline gesture are typical of the “VALTON style”.
The fine chasing and the beautiful shades of the brown patina made according to the strict rules of bronze art, make this edition a great artistic success.
